Q&A with Mike Jones the owner of
Clark County Plumbing & Drain LLC
How long is Clark County Plumbing & Drain LLC been serving Southwest Washington?
Clark County Plumbing & Drain LLC has been serving the Vancouver, WA area since 2005. “When we started out the majority of our business was residential and commercial new construction plumbing. We also offered remodel plumbing to contractors and homeowners in Vancouver, WA and the Camas, Washougal, WA area.” Says Mike Jones the Owner of Clark County Plumbing & Drain LLC
“Soon after we opened our doors we added our plumbing service department as well as our drain cleaning and sewer department. As our plumbing business grew we gradually shifted from new construction and remodel plumbing to strictly service plumbing. 90% of our business is service plumbing or drain and sewer work now”. Which is what we prefer says, Mike.
What is something that you wish potential clients and homeowners new before they called you?
“That’s a difficult question, but I think one of the biggest things that I see potential customers of ours get frustrated with is that we don’t offer estimates over the phone. A customer will call and say ” how much do you charge for this or that”. We used to try and give them a rough idea over the phone but there are just too many variables involved. It would be like calling a mechanic and saying “my car is making a funny noise how much do you charge to fix it”?
We understand that homeowners just want an idea of what a plumbing repair may cost. Unfortunately, there is no way to be accurate over the phone. We made it a policy years ago that we would not give estimates over the phone but instead we would offer free in-home estimates.
Our number one goal is customer service, and we feel the best way to offer that is with one of our highly trained plumbers or drain cleaners to look at our potential customer’s plumbing issues first hand and in person. The homeowner has no financial obligation to have us do the work and sometimes the plumbing or drain cleaning repair cost more than they expected but they at least have a written estimate and they know how much it will cost them. Most of the time though, homeowners are pleased to find out that our plumbing and drain cleaning services cost less than they expected and we are there ready to do the work.”
A lot of plumbing companies offer 24-hour emergency service, why doesn’t Clark County Plumbing & Drain?
“We used to offer 24-7 emergency plumbing and drain cleaning service for many years, and most of those years it would be me taking care of them. Like I said in the previous question, Customer Service Is Clark County Plumbings Number One Goal. So it was a difficult decision to decide to not offer 24-7 emergency service any longer.
The decision came down to family, although Clark County Plumbings number one goal is customer service, My number one goal is family, and that includes the family of our employees. Our employees work their butts off 40-50 hours a week and a lot of them have young families. I had a hard time asking them to give all they had during the work week and then ask them to wake up at 2 o’clock in the morning to handle an emergency call. So I would handle the after-hours calls but I realized that was affecting my family. So my wife and I made the decision to do the best we can during our normal business hours and refer the emergency work to other plumbing companies that we trust. I know we miss out on potential jobs but we believe it’s what is best for our company and employees.
What areas does Clark County Plumbing & Drain serve?
“Our service area is pretty big, although we are based out of Camas, WA, we cover Washougal, WA, and as far East as White Salmon, WA. It’s funny we will have customers call us and ask if we go out to Vancouver, WA. Obviously, we cover all of Vancouver, WA, out to Felida, Salmon Creek, and Hazel Dell, WA. We recently traveled all the way North to the Centralia, WA, Chehalis, WA, area to install a sewer liner. Most of the time we don’t go much further North than Longview, WA. It really just depends on the type of job it is and if it makes sense for us and the customer to do it. We are not licensed in Oregon so we do not travel across the bridge”
